South Florida was the petri dish for mass immigration for half century ++. People living sheltered lives in gated communities away from immigrant communities would have no idea. It was just how it was growing up down here for me and I specifically remember many of these news reports. As it relates to Springfield Ohio in current year, these reports do reference pets such as turtles, horses and dogs. Cats aren't specifically mentioned here. At least the horses and dogs are mentioned being consumed. Hell, there was ongoing private horse thefts sacrificed and/or butchered for food for decades that made national news.

EATING PETS? HATEFUL CONSPIRACY? CULTURE CLASH? - POTENTIAL ANSWERS FROM SOUTH FLORIDA...

There is some light commentary at the end I partially agree with. I don't agree that it being done for religious reasons is a valid reason. This could be a good discussion starting point, but only if you click and actually watch.
