Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) has a plan to start cleaning up the skies with a giant magnetic net that will scoop up space junk. The system will be tested next month with a satellite developed by researchers at Kagawa University. Once in orbit, the satellite will deploy a 300 meter wire that will generate a magnetic field. In theory, it should attract some of the junk floating around up there. This is just the first step, though. The eventual orbital net will be considerably more impressive.
