State finally removes abused children from parents

I posted a thread about a similar situation a couple months ago. Of course some of our lefties here will nod along claiming this is the right thing to do. The next logical step is eugenics.

That's balls. If you want to stop people from getting fat then you have to go after the food manufacturers who make the crap that makes people fat. Everything is fructose fructose fructose these days (especially in the diet foods) and that stuff will bloat you. These kids have fat parents, they already have genes against them and if they get sugar, which is in everything these days, they'll inflate just like mum and dad.

As to eugenics - just let them keep eating crap food. Obesity impacts fertility negatively and increases the chance they'll die of complications before they manage to find a mate anyway. Nature already does eugenics.

A very sad case. A 12 year old boy whose 224 pounds. It's highly unlikely he's the 6'4" where this would be nearly acceptable. The hard story is these kids at a morbidly obsese level and are being killed. I suspect if unresolved the boy likely has a life expentency of 30 more years. This IS a serious problem.

There seems to be other problems here too. The parents aren't enforcing a curfew? They had to restrict their kids to a 11PM? The kids are 11 and 12 the parents should be with them most nights. A curfew should be occurring naturally. Though perhaps the parents work around the clock, in which case they need to find a babysitter/guardian something.

Should the state take the kids away? It's a fair question. Maybe we can approach this from the 'free enterprise' view. People can select what societies they live in. If they don't like the rules the family could pick up and move to a freer society, perhaps the USA. Where morbid obesity is, unfortunately, becoming more the standard of our children.

Given the state of the kids the parents already are actively undertaking eugenics.

Wait until massive inflation rates starts to really bite in, problem solved. Fat kids problem will solve itself and the state won't have the money to do much of anything.

Ahh Dammy always the happy downfall of government is the answer ostrich.

It's not going to be happy times. It's going to be horrific times for the majority of people. Now it will be happy times for a few in the Progressive movements, they will be thrilled to take part in violent riots in urban centers.

You really don't get it. Sigh... If the FDA really did what it was supposed to, there would not be an obesity problem like we have now.

BTW this will disproportionately affect the poor and minorities since they are undereducated. I guess you want to see negros hanging from trees just like the Tea Party?

Problem is it's not education, but financial. If you have to live dirt cheap, processed foods is a way of life. Under Obama, we can see what is going on in the minorities finances: http://money.cnn.com/2011/09/02/news/economy/black_unemployment_rate/

It is both, so I disagree it is not education. Undereducated parents may not understand the consequences of feeding their children Pop Tarts and Mountain Dew for breakfast every day, opposed to eggs and toast with water or juice. Eggs and bread are not terribly expensive compared to Pop Tarts, at least not yet.

The FDA is a huge piece of the problem, if not the biggest piece of the problem. HFCS is a disaster to health, yet it is in just about every processed food. GMO derived foods also lead to serious health problems including diabetes and obesity. The FDA is waging a war against organic farmers while acting as mafia-like protectors of frankenfood producers.

1 Pop Tart (16 pack) and 1 Dew (12 pack) is about $0.50 if you buy it from WalMart. Couple of eggs is cheap from WalMart, but they probably want cheese, or bacon, or something else because eggs are pretty boring by themselves plus milk or juice costs but water is basically free by the glass.

They are also waging war on the dietary supplements. http://lefcms.lef.org/featured-arti...=INFEML_Bill_0408&key=logo&sourcecode=ING100E

I'm not sure I'm the one that's not getting it. If you read the article it's from the UK. Another example, if you again read, you find weight given in 'stone'. While an english unit that measure is uncommon enough to be classified unheard of in the USA. When is the last time you went to the doctor and he told you, your weight in stone? Now that we've established UK go back to FDA which is a US organization and should have no reach into the UK. Or did we all of a sudden make the FDA an international agency? IMO you're not getting it. This is the UK not the USA. It's up to them to decide what type of nation they want. And it's up to them to decide if they want to live in that type of nation or not. I simply used the Free Market idea of pick another vendor. In this case the vendor is the nation. If obesity is something they desire they need to move to a nation that embraces their desire.

I'd say huge leap of logic but logic fails this leap even. Obesity in the UK and the USA effect all classes.

At one time Jefferson stated there should be revolution from time to time to wash away the tyranny. He said this about the French Revolution. No one ever quotes his later words which were akin to - oh shit, the French Revolution demonstrated not all violence is good.

In the words of my mother when I wanted more than what was available as a child: "We don't have any of that, deal with it."

And once the associated whining and pleas of "but I want it" died down it was inevitably followed up with "We still don't have any and I want doesn't get".

As someone who grew up way below the poverty line I lived on a very basic, but nutritionally balanced diet that was low in pre pack meals, in fact I don't think I ever had a pre packaged meal until I was around 12. If you know how to cook, you can make tiny amounts of cash go much further than pre pack crap.

As a modern example of frugal eating, try this.

Good. Unless all you're eating is bananas and rabbit, it's highly unlikely you have a diet that is lacking in essential vitamins and I'm including pre packaged meals in this.
