Former presidential candidate Steve Forbes says that the way to get out of our economic mess is to enact "pro-growth" policies such as lower corporate taxes and a radically simplified tax code.

The CEO and editor of Forbes Magazine, Steve Forbes also wants to throw out our byzantine tax system of brackets and deductions and replace it with a simple flat tax.
Forbes also thinks the US should immediately go back on the gold standard, before more damage is done to our currency.
The ability to print money, Forbes says, encourages the government to spend money, even when it has to create this money out of thin air. Returning to the gold standard, therefore, would rein in government spending.

Unfortunately going back to the gold standard at this point might end up leaving you with a dollar value not unlike the Rouble under Yeltzin.

Only way you're going to cut the deficit in the real term is by making cuts, might I suggest that the military be amongst the first and by far the greatest before people start looking at things like planned parenthood and medicaid/medicare.

I have a mix view of dollar back by gold standard. That only works if US have gold. If the US has the gold then over time the US won't have gold because everyone will want the dollar convert to gold. China has lots of sliver and it not back by silver because China does not want to lose the silver plus other reason. I do agree with dollar back by something, maybe a basket of commodities or some kind of basket.

cutting taxes for poor and middle class is fine
raise taxes for the rich

You need to watch this. If you see this before. Then you need to watch it again until you understand why your idea don't work.
