then act all surprised when it ends up in drinking water!

Can deep well injection really be safe over the long term? And how much regulation would it take? How much regulation would be tolerated? And is this really the best we can do when it comes to waste disposal?

using dry oilfield wells for disposal has been going on for a very, very long time

the zones that are being used for disposal are high porosity salt water zones well below any fresh water

the maximum depth that fresh water is found varies by local geology
For example here in Laredo, fresh water is found only down to 1000 ft max ( considered good enough for livestock, but not for city water use)

but just 30 miles east the salt water table is just below the surface (the only fresh water is surface ponds) (its a different geological outcrop)

and 50 miles north is the Carrizo outcrop, the Artisian Wells wetlands the recharge zone for the City of Corpus Christi's Wells 150 miles away
