Fox news is using words like botched, miscalculation, meltdown but we know that Fox fully supports a fascist state and cheers every new transgression against liberty as "necessary" to defend freedom!!

AntiWar.com muses a little more over the consequences.

It would be nice if the US could bury these emergency powers now instead of live under them for 30 years the way the Egyptians have lived under an emergency powers act, or the way the Germans did from 1933 until 1945.

Slate doesn't see it quite that way...

The Tea Party didn't derail a vote on the Patriot Act.

Very quickly, a theory emerged to explain all this: It was, according to NBC News, "Tea Party defiance." The theory is a little flawed. The House of Representatives contains 87 Republican freshmen, many of them proud wavers of the Gadsden flag. Only eight freshmen voted against the rule. (A ninth newly elected Republican, Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick, voted no, but he's just returned to Congress after a four-year hiatus.) There were more Democrats—36—who switched their votes from last year to this year.

Any republican who voted for the Patriot act is not a real republican. You guys thought the Tea Party was a joke, think again.

I'm confuseded. The Results were 172 Democrats against extending and 233 Republicans for extending. So you're saying there are more Republicans in the Democratic party then there are Republicans in the Republican party?

Basically the Tea Party drove the extension of the Patriot Act over the finish line. Including MN's own Tea Party founder Michelle "batshit crazy" Bachmann.

Maybe it was the biggest con ever: democrats mascarading as republicans under the guise of the tea party?

Wow if that graphic is any indication it seems even Fade is figuring out there ain't much difference there. Welcome aboard!

Democrats front some updated legislation to protect individual rights... "No Constitutional shortcuts. When investigating American citizens, the government must comply with the Constitution, even in national security investigations

Challenging unconstitutional action. If a citizen challenges the government's use of PATRIOT Act power in a court of law, the case must be expedited to ensure the individual's rights are upheld."... All except 2 Republicans vote down these protections. LINK
