Science informs technology, but technology is not science. Just because science is a discipline recognized for methodically reducing the amount of error in our models of the universe doesn't mean that technologies based on science share the same objectives in terms of discovering the truth. This is a distinction that often leads to an unfounded trust in technology - which can lead to things like this, for example.
