Hunt began dating her girlfriend when she was 17. The relationship was reportedly well-known to both sets of parents. When Hunt turned 18, her girlfriend’s parents went to the police and she was arrested on felony charges of “sexual battery on a person 12-16 years old,”

i'm really starting to hate humankind... we're barely human and rarely kind... jesus... whats the world coming to?

it's not all of humanity

just some assholes. the fact that these moron bigoted parents WAITED until the older girl turned 18 just proves what scumbags they are. It's all about revenge for them.

sadly, they are "getting even" with their own daughter. and we wonder why lgbt youth have such high suicide rates... am i missing something here or is this the issue: two minors can consent to a relationship until one reaches 18 at which point the earlier two years of consent don't matter? cause thats sure the way it looks. and thats just fawktarded. i got a waiver to join the army at 16. seems some kind of waiver type thing would be suitable here. something similar to an emancipation proceeding for a child. go see a judge say hey this is my boyfriend girlfriend for 2 yrs or whatever and ask the judge to declare it not illegal... otherwise if i were her i'd be filing FOR an emancipation from her dinkus parents... as if its so easy to find a decent relationship in our world that society can throw out ones that work or worse yet criminalize them... the 18 yr old will be a registered sex offender i'm guessing... nice stigma to attach to a kid before they get out of high school, all for the heinous act of "falling in love"...our society is crumbling because we have lost most of our common sense and our ability to apply it....

The three year age gap makes things a little more complicated if you ask me.

Whilst the parents waiting until the girl turned 18 is despicable, a 17 year old going out with 14 year old is not looked on favourably in my neck of the woods, regardless of the sexes of those involved.

Statutory rape laws can be ridiculous. Florida actually improved their laws. I forget all the details, but a 3 year difference would not trigger a crime IIRC.

In some some states an 18 year old would get arrested for being with a 17 year old, even if the age difference was only in days.

I agree IF they JUST met.

However, they have been friends for three years and that's a long time for kids.

if these parents understood anything about human psychology they would know that the LAST thing they should do is get between friends. That just creates a stronger bond between them

In any case making this a legal issue is retarded

The article reads as if this was a surprise to both girls. We really don't know what went on behind the scenes.

I hope their parents were honest and expressed their condemnation of this relationship prior to this event. Even though I feel that condemnation based on straight vs gay would be wrong a good parent still owes open and honest communication to their children. There, of course, is no law requiring parents to be honest with their children. IMO if that wasn't done, I feel, the court case should be rejected.

Be it straight or gay having an 18 year old dating my 14 year old kid is not something I'd appreciate. Only after sufficient conversation and long consideration would I involve the cops or courts. One must really weigh the psychological harm and family impact of not involving courts VS the psychological harm and family impact of involving the courts. Depending on the circumstances it could fall on either side of that line.

A brief few paragraph article is likely unable to capture the nuances and relationships across 3 years. For this particular instance I'd say I simply have to make too many assumptions to be comfortable with any sort of conclusion.

Come on now, faethor, this overly-sensible attitude is not in keeping with the ethos of the forum.

Let's hear some barely conceived, type first, think later, opinionated, passionate yet logically incoherent, knee-jerk rambling, preferably expressed whilst in a state of of moderate inebriation. That's my approach anyway. :p

In all seriousness, you're absolutely correct; nowhere near enough information to go on.
