So awesome and beautiful! :D :D :D

Photograph taken from one million miles away from earth - nice.

Awesome! The first time i saw this i thought it was fake.

It has an unfortunate amount of fake look to it - particularly that green edge on the right hand side which is reminiscent of green screen, but at the resolution shown it is also a ragged edge which reminds me of HAM artefacts in Photon Paint - but I don't suppose NASA is faking space with an Amiga ... though it would be cool!

If you get the big picture from here http://www.nasa.gov/sites/default/files/thumbnails/image/epicearthmoonstill.png you can strip it into RGB channels you can see that it looks like this was shot over time using multiple colour filters. It also looks like the order is Green then Red then Blue leaving that nasty green edge on the leading side of the moon.

the green transparent line is NOT what a green screen "pull" would look like.
  1. It's transparent
  2. It's not the correct green tone
  3. it's not feathered (the edge is Hard)
  4. and there's no green spill
