The complete idiots guide....

Should have added that this is a montage of well chosen (in my opinion) clips. It opens with a couple of questions from Carl Sagan, and also features David Attenborough.

As a child reading Sagan and Asimov I found their views inspiring.
It was thrilling to realize that humans could reject fear and stupidity for reason and logic.....and that this could be the Turning Point of human history.

I've watched Sagan's Cosmos through twice now and will probably do so again in the near future. Although it's aged a little it's still head and shoulders above anything of that ilk since.

last year I think I saw an "updated" version of Cosmos. That is, they added nice effects.
It was interesting. But it's Sagan's words that are the best and most long lasting.
One of these days I should get the DVD set

man "can do" anything, it is usually in his willingness that the problem starts...

i live in Kansas. i'm an avid fossil hunter. occasionally i share my collection with area school children. the number of children who tell me i am wrong about the dates the dinosaur roamed the earth has increased in the recent past. we can reject fear and stupidity, but apparently a lot of us aren't. and that group of people are actually so afraid of losing their religion that they've seemingly returned with a renewed sense of vigor. one woman told me i was in league with satan and that fossils were planted by the devil to create doubt of the bible. unwilling to even consider the bible to be wrong...

Which either makes God a bit of a dolt for not noticing, or he's in on the game, which would make him a bit of a dick (as in the story of Job). It's strange that people would rather chose one of those two options than chose the option that the evidence is real.
