Got a bunch of prisoners that are costing tax payers money to lock up? Well, why not pay that tax payers money to a private company to lock those prisoners up for you. All you have to do is promise to keep the prison 90% full. What could go wrong?
Meanwhile, we can also punish those greedy American workers who like to get paid enough to buy a house and push wages down to sub-Chinese levels with prison labour. It's just win win win - is there anyone who isn't just pure winning under such a great system? (and when I say "anyone" I mean anyone worth speaking of, and not middle class workers and poor people and people found guilty of crimes they may or may not have committed).
