The stimulus worked

On the most basic level, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is responsible for saving and creating 2.5 million jobs. The majority of economists agree that it helped the economy grow by as much as 3.8 percent, and kept the unemployment rate from reaching 12 percent.
I can hear them now "THAT'S NOT GOOD ENOUGH"

This is a classic problem and you see it over and over in various settings. The guy who has the facts on his side gets complacent and the guy that knows that facts are against him fights harder.

It happens in court when innocent people fail to prepare a strong defence because it's obvious they are innocent whereas the guilty will get the best lawyers they can afford. It happened in the Ford vs. Firestone fiasco where Ford knew the Explorer was built too narrow and top heavy and was a roll over waiting to happen, and that Firestone knew their tires weren't defective - so Ford pulled out all the stops and lobbied and bribed politicians to get things to go their way.
The fact that America is not Greece right now is testament to the fact that stimulus is better than austerity.
The problem remains the people at the top and the enormous sway they hold in politics (especially now they can spend unlimited money) but it'll be a long time before you see a politician who has enough popular backing to go after the oligarchs.

dear president obama,

on behalf of my less grateful red state neighbors, i would like to thank you for the stimulus money. last month our entire rural community (including farms out in the middle of nowhere aka area businesses) was finally upgraded to high speed digital lines.in fact all of our rural towns and cities are being brought online.this month you are replacing our aging gas lines that provide service to our homes. i work often on the farm. i notice that more of the roads i travel on are paved now. im glad because my parents are getting older and i see an ambulance will have no trouble getting to them should they need one. i drive by and notice that you gave some of that money to oil companies. some might complain, but im glad you provided assistance to upgrade individual well storage. paying for the retainer berms and subsidizing the new fiber barrels, that aren't susceptible to rust and prone to leaking, will go a long way towards ensuring that oil is contained, shipped, and processed with as little impact on the soil, our life blood. we upgraded our water system too. also with stimulus money, our childrens water system will perform better. our community clinic that takes walk ins will be improved as well. im not ungrateful, this all needed to be done. we would not have been able to as a community, afford such a huge expense without sending our property taxes through the roof. so... thank you...

cool, robert. This is really what the government is for - make it possible for citizens to make the most of their lives by simply being able to get around and do business or take care of their family/friends.
how moronic they they call this "socialism" as if there's something wrong with it
