I am excited about a TV series for the first time in 20+ years!

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1520211/

I've seen the first episode and have the 2nd on DVR for tonight. For a TV series, I am extremely impressed. For those of you who are Romero zombie fans, you should love this show. The zombies themselves so far remind me of Night of the Living Dead (original) style. The are slow and lumbering normally, but can get a slow jog going. They are not the full track speed runners as in some of the newer movies like 28 Days Later and Dawn of the Dead 2002 (remake).

For the Romero fans, you will appreciate that these zombies share a trait with the zombies from Night of the Living dead (original) and Survival of the Dead. This is a trait not seen in his other movies (Dawn of the Dead (original), Day of the Dead (original), Land of the Dead and Diary of the Dead). What trait am I talking about? I guess you have to watch the show!

I'll bite; Flesh eaters?

saw the first episode

yawn

I am busy watching Dexter - another great season
Broadway Empire - Fabulous new series about the beginnings of organized crime caused by Prohibition
The New Sherlock (Holmes) series from the UK.

All Zombies do that! I'll give Wayne and Lee a chance to guess before I answer. Should be an easy one for Romero fans.

I am shocked and appalled
I guess it's because I had friends and colleagues who were either part of that Romero 'dead movies' thing (making zombies or Being zombies)....seen it, been there, done that.......not that interesting anymore.

and as a friend of mine (a director) said after we watched the 1st episode of the series: 'What has Romero Wrought?" We KNOW what is going to happen. there's not much suspense.
Romero can't get financing for anything else than horror films. he's stuck. that's kinda sad.

most people who have made films/TV started in two ways: porn or horror films.

fact

I started basically with commercials and horror films, btw.
my first TV job (I didn't get paid) was a kids series that won a daytime Emmy and the producer/director had been making porn up to that date.

fact

I've seen too much to be easily immpressed

Maybe you have to be a zombie fan, which I have morphed into. Just like most people don't get why some of us use retro computers as a hobby :) Is the concept original? Of course not, but as a TV series it is. It sure beats just another sitcom. I actually do like the plot so far through the first 2 episodes.

Romero does not seem to be putting out the same quality as in the past.

I'm glad you find the series to your liking. (really)

I just find series like Dexter to be more to my liking because of the moral ambiguity. Sopranos has the same sort of ethical gray-areas.

meaning that the audience "likes" the main character despite the his bad behavior.
I find this WAY more interesting that the typical 'formula' of network TV. Which is why I rarely watch network TV.

exceptions are 'The New Adventures of Old Christine" (Huge fan of Julia Louis Dreyfus), The Office (like the UK version better, but the American version is interesting)

basically, there is way more interesting stuff going on the Science/history/Smithsonian/Discover/etc channels to watch the Same 'ol, Same 'ol stuff

One show that I've bee watching lately: An Idiot Abroad.

I watched all six episodes of the series so far and I have to say that I'm thoroughly impressed. Not so much by the plot or anything serious like that. More that the people in charge have actually come up with something a bit different by way of a "Zombie TV series" as opposed to yet another "cake baking", "build a car" or "vote someone off" reality show.

I'll even take TWD over most of the standard sitcoms, cause they've got guns and no plan to get from point A to B to Dead.

It is very Romero'esque by nature, and (versus the fast-movers of the recent movies,) going back to the classic representation of Zombies is a great thing. Yes. A Zombie may have all the muscles that you have, but if you give them speed, you also tend to let your audience think that they have the brains left to use them.

Zombies don't have brains. They eat them. Fatal flaw of the new movies #1.

Long live George Romero, and well done to the cast and crew of The Walking Dead.
