It's almost certainly due to the power of media to project an image and the US has the world's pre-eminent media machine.

Canada would have rated higher, I'm sure, if more people were exposed to such gold as The Great Canadian Ppliance Jump.

New York is definitely cool..... however THE coolest thing about America is the Constitution and Bill of Rights. And the French knew that when they had their own revolution
 
'Made in America' is still thought of worldwide as an upscale brand. Think of Apple who now uses a fairly generic Intel board w/ a couple of tweaks. They get to upcharge for their product even if it's not as special as it once was. The USA could learn a thing or two from Jobs on how to get mindshare and charge extra for a that slightly better product.
 
I'm pretty sure most Apple products are made by Foxconn in Taiwan. But ya, I get what you mean.
