This should never have happened. In fact, I hope it never did. I hope it's just one of those poorly fact-checked news-of-the-odd-daily-news-of-the-world things.

Because if it isn't then we have a problem with people who are greedy AND stupid - and it's no wonder, then, that they worship greedy stupid people too. Where do those people get their morals from?

We have a problem with people who are greedy and stupid? People are greedy and stupid. It's been that way since for ever. Get used to it.

Here's an even better story for you. A buddy of mine had these fake lottery pull tab tickets that always win. He would give them to people to get a laugh when they thought they won tons of cash. Anyway, he gave a ticket to this other mutual buddy of ours. He told him he bought a bunch of tickets and wanted him to open up a few to check for winners, and then he walked away to attend to other things (this was at hs work). When he got back, the guy who opened the tickets told him the ticket was a non-winner and he threw it out. Obviously he thought the ticket was real and thought he won some serious cash and pocketed the ticket. My prankster buddy never let him in on the joke although I'd imagine he clued in when he went to cash it. Loser. We don't really talk to buddy #2 any more.

yes, people are stupid

why the surprise?

That's the other thing that's wrong with the world. Such low expectations and such shrugging apathy.

So what do you suggest we do about it then? Line them up and have them shot?

I'm not an idealist, I'm a realist. The reality is that we're a product of millions of years of evolution. Everything from fear to love to hate to greed to apathy have gotten us where we are today, and although it's tempting to think we could have been better off without some of those characteristics, something tells me they're all essential. And if there is something amiss, evolution will take care of that too.

In other words, it's pointless to worry too much about things you can't control, and human nature is one of those things. You just gotta deal with it and move on.

I like that idea. Maybe if we had a big warehouse with a sign on the front door that said "Free shots!".
