The tiny $35 Raspberry Pi computer went on sale today, crashing its distributors' websites on the way to selling out within hours of launch.

Looking at the slashdot coverage it seems that the lot were sold out inside of an hour or so. Not bad by any measure. Also RS and Farnell will be taking on the manufacture of future batches, so hopefully it'll be more readily available in future.

Still laughing my tits off at this thing though, and how much of a mockery it makes of every excuse ever given about the X1000. Brilliant.

Has anyone got one of these yet?

Not quite in the same price range, but perhaps close enough, you could also opt for one of these: Linux computer the size of a thumb drive now available for preorder

FXI is preparing to launch the Cotton Candy, a tiny computer that looks like a USB thumb drive. The device, which can run either Ubuntu or Android 4.0, has a dual-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A9 CPU, 1GB of RAM, and a Mali 400MP GPU that allows it to decode high-definition video.

I'm think it might make for a decent HTPC, especially if it accepts a USB ethernet adapter (Wi-Fi is nice, but kinda sucks for HD I find). Of course you'd then be forced to use bluetooth keyboard & mouse, which would add to my cost.

They are shipping now, I think and another order has gone to the factory if I've read my updates right. I'm a long ways down the list, I'm afraid. Be a few more months yet for me.

Hmm. Dunno - that's getting pretty close to the cost of a similarly specc'ed netbook or tablet. Certainly once you add a screen/kb/mouse you are in the ballpark - but it might make part of a cool render farm - if you have enough ports on your usb hub :)
(Actually, that might not be a very good configuration, battle-neck-wise)
