Once upon a time, Toys 'R' Us was my favorite computer and toy store. Their bankruptcy brings me no joy, despite the fact I haven't really shopped there in over 20 years.

5 reasons Toys R Us failed to survive bankruptcy

I'm surprised it lasted this long. It was downhill right before the time the founder was forced out until now. Speaking of the founder, I don't believe in coincidences.

Toys 'R' Us founder Charles Lazarus dies

Charles Lazarus, who founded Toys "R" Us 70 years ago, died Thursday, a week after the company announced it will be forced to shut down its U.S. operations.

Lazarus, 94, no longer held a stake in the chain. He started the company in 1948 when he was 25, anticipating that the post-war baby boom would create demand for baby supplies and toys. He remained CEO until 1994.

I will always have fond memories.
