Some people want to hit the big banks where it hurts and, of course, the big banks hit them back - with the public police. What is this dread financial terrorism - of course it is people so disgusted with the big banks that they close their accounts in protest. It sounds like it should be something that is your right - but instead of allowing customers to close their accounts the banks have them arrested.

Terrorists hate your freedoms.

No bandwidth at work to watch videos, but I am not surprised and doubt watching the videos will change my mind. This is Obama's America. YES, both parties share blame and are corrupt. Yes, the big banks and corporations are in the back pockets of most politicians. That said, this all is happening on Obama's watch for a reason.

Yes, because the opposition could only field a doddery old gent one shock away from the grave and a far right religious wingnut who was more terrifying than Reagan...

This term, regardless of which team won would have been a poison chalice given the problems that were on the immediate horizon.

And YES, despite claiming to be aware of this, you'll probably still vote for a Republican at the next opportunity.

Fluffy, that made my day. Protesters so dumb, that they think the only way to close an account is to go to their bank and demand their money.

Never occurred to them to just open an account at a Credit Union or a "small" bank of their choice, and write a check to themselves and deposit it into the new account.

If you're that dumb, you shouldn't be allowed to contribute to the gene pool.

If someone is dumb enough to think that transferring the money out of your account is sufficient to close it then they deserve the thousands of dollars of fees that will rapidly pile up until collections comes to their door to take their stuff. Yup. Some people sure are thick, aren't they.

Maybe in Canada. Here , if your account is empty, the bank will close it. Fact is, by state law, if your account is inactive for a certain length of time, even with money in it, they have to close it and transfer any money to a special account run by the state. It doesn't earn any interest, but the bank doesn't eat it up with fees.

Sucks to live in Canada I guess.

Quick, tell BofA.
If you intend to close your account with us, you should tell us; simply transferring all the money in your account and reducing your account balance to $0.00 is insufficient notice and may result in additional fees charged to your account.

I'm with Fluffy here. The banks are dirty which is why I use a credit union.

Surely it would sting the bank more if you withdrew all but the smallest amount you required in order to keep your account open. In that instance, it will cost them more in administration than they can make out of it.

Nowadays these most of these banks charge monthly fees, or inactivity fees.

ITYM "Sucks to bank with Bank of America"...
you could add almost any major bank to the "sucks to bank with _____ "

Rule of thumb is the bigger the bank, the more fees you pay for the privilege of being allowed to be their customer

Have your bank account at a local / community bank

Good, then we're all in agreement for once!

Don't see that as an unreasonable policy. Never had a problem closing a bank account. "I'd like to close my account" "my last check written was #"

This wasn't a debate about if that's good policy or not. Fade made a statement that by reducing your balance to zero, your account will get closed after a period of time. Fluffy was just demonstrating that you may in fact need to formally close the account, regardless of account balance.
