Understand Islam in 8 minutes...

Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi "caliph" of ISIS, has a doctorate degree in Quranic studies

So ... not much different from Judaism and Christianity then. Fundies try to pretend their books are literal words of God and the laws must be obeyed and moderates cherry pick the heck out of their faiths. Some Muslim organizations take donations to fund extremists, some Jewish organizations accept charitable donations to fund ... extremists. "Faithful" Muslims can lie to non-Muslims and "faithful" Jews can lie to Goyim. Muslims can appeal to Sharia courts to settle matters in their community and Jews can appeal to Jewish religious courts. Ultimately, those that do not find satisfaction in those venues can appeal to the law courts of the country in which they live which have ultimate jurisdiction. No higher court will uphold a Sharia judgement, especially one that contradicts the local law and if a Sharia court tried to cut off a hand or execute a homosexual there would be some clerics going to jail.

I am part of an organization that has its own courts and tribunals for handling transgressions of its laws (and all under a voluntary basis).

And not too many years ago in Christian Europe atheists were executed (by burning even) and the wrong sorts of Christians were massacred. The Christian religion of peace slaughtered whole cities full of "infidels" during the crusades (men, women and children all) and continues to slaughter civilians with "smart" weapons fired from the safety of an armchair - not to be confused with "barrel bombs" which are evil because the people that use them have to put themselves in danger to target and drop them.

Afghanistan in the 1920's was moving towards being a westernized secular more or less democratic government (with improvements in womens' rights and stuff, especially in the 70s) but we backed Jihadis in that country to topple the government (and to draw in the Soviets to defend that secular government) and then helped Saudi Arabia (our good friend and ally whom we sell tons of weapons to so they can drop US made cluster bombs on civilians in Yemen) to export the nastiest form of Islam and Islamic terrorism to mess with Afghanistan and ultimately Iraq (up untill 2003 a secular state with womens' rights and healthcare and no stonings for adultery etc) and Libya (up until a few years ago a secular state with womens' rights and healthcare).

Islam under attack turns as nasty as Christianity under attack - it's not the religion, it's the circumstance - and the efforts of the west to back the worst kind of trouble makers to destabilize countries. Just look to Ukraine where we backed Nazis... whoever is willing to cause trouble in states we don't like, we will back.

Back in the last century Irish Catholics were blowing up Irish Protestants with plenty of beatings and killings going back and forth too - and in case you didn't know, the guys that were setting off car bombs and other sundry explosives killing civilians were not Muslim - they were Christian.

People are born within Islam, you can't be considering them all being potentially liars or murderers.

Don't see anything to disagree with there, but that is a different debate. Do we have to respect Muslim's beliefs? No. Do we have to respect Christian beliefs? No. Do we have to respect the beliefs of people who that the world is warming because of human produced greenhouse gasses? No. Do we have to respect the beliefs of people who think the earth is an oblate spheroid? No. Do we have to respect the beliefs of people who think that six million Jews were cooked in ovens? Yes. Unquestionably yes, just the same way that Muslims in some Islamic country have to believe that Allah exists.

But that is quite separate from this idea that Islam requires people to behave badly. Christians were a pretty nasty bunch a few hundred years back - and they could justify it by scripture, but these days most don't behave that way and the Westboro Baptist types who have a pretty good grasp of what scripture requires of them are viewed as loonies. Muslim fundies are looked on as loonies by a lot of much less fundamental Muslims. It's in the creed, but the creed, as with Christianity is malleable. The creed doesn't necessarily dictate the culture.

@metalman Another US foreign policy success. Nothing has spread fundamentalist Islam as well as DEMOCRACY(TM) has.

another of Hillary's and Obama's foreign policy success stories

“We knew that if we . . .waited one more day,” said Obama, “Benghazi, a city nearly the size of Charlotte, could suffer a massacre that would have reverberated across the region and stained the conscience of the world.” -- President Obama’s address to the nation March 2011.

I refused to let that happen,” -- Obama in a March 2011 radio address

Obama authorized military action “to stop the killing.”

Obama authorized military action “to stop the killing.”

Obama authorized military action to help the thugs he and his Arab buddies were backing to get to Tripoli and topple Gaddafi. And then Libya's weapons would leak back through Benghazi and into the hands of Saudi backed "rebels" like ISIS to help topple Syria - and no Americans were supposed to get killed and it would all be nice and hands off. Yes, it was all very much smarter and cheaper than the way Cheney did it, but what a lot of jihadis it made.

Because the previous US regime did so much better?
Attempting to paint this type of thing as Dem v Repub is missing the point.
