US Tax Dollars At Work

That's definitely a good example of a bad way industry and government work together. Why should any foreign workers be allowed until our unemployment rate drops?

“The JEEP program was developed to promote peace and stability in Mindanao by teaching English to youth in conflict-prone areas to help them pursue gainful employment in tourism, nursing and other locally-based industries and to break the cycle of violence which had gripped that region of the Philippines,” a USAID spokesperson told Business Week, adding that it is set to expire at the end of the year.
The congressmen want it gone yesterday.
“Using Americans’ hard-earned taxpayer dollars to fund the training of foreign nationals to take our jobs is absolutely crazy and totally unacceptable,” Jones said in a statement. “Uncle Sam is over $15 trillion in debt and unemployment is still elevated because of policies like this, and it’s got to stop.”

we don't get to control the absolutely filthy things the israelis do with our aid money either... :( the broader point to remember here is these jobs are being sent there by an "american" company, and that those same corporations having dodged their tax responsibilities here at home, siphon off foreign aid abroad.... outstanding!!

Depends, Ph.Ds and such, I have no problem attracting the best brains (and their families) to work in the US regardless of unemployment levels as they will help create new wealth in America. Those with little to no education (or substantial abilities) need to stay home till US employment rate U-6 is back down to 10% or lower. It's time for America to consider what is best for her first, the needs of the others second. We no longer have the luxury of being too generous to the rest of the world as we are no longer the world's economic super power.

Who do you think asks for these sorts of programs? American corporations are delighted by high unemployment as it drives down wages but even so they view wages as being appallingly high. This isn't just public sector wages or union wages either - the owners feel they are spending far too much on labour - they want to kill the unions so that people can't look to their wages any more and realize how badly they are getting screwed but even the $9 an hour clerk is earning 9 times too much as far as the upper classes are concerned. Corporate interests demand more ways to bring in skilled and semi skilled immigrants to take jobs from the locals and corporate interests demand a porous border. It certainly isn't the average working Joe who wants to be put out of work by such policies but that doesn't matter because the government doesn't work for the average Joe. Doesn't matter if it's a blue one or a red one, the government works for whoever has the most money.

Actually while China is nipping at our heals we are the world's economic super power. In part China wouldn't be where it is today if it didn't invest in the USA.
