Video game quality is regressing, badly!

Far Cry 2 is TEN years old, yet looks like the far more superior game technology over just released Far Cry 5. It's rather embarrassing actually.

 
I might have to play Far Cry 2...


Edit...Just bought it at Greenman Gaming for US$7.99...BARGAIN!

I've not bought FC 5 year, I'll wait a couple years for a deep discount on sale. I have played FC 1-4 and FC Primal. I've enjoyed all of them to varying extents. My favorite is probably FC 1. It has the best game play and is very different than the rest of the series, though I won't say why for possible spoilers. FC 1 pretty ground breaking back when games still had a uniqueness to them. FC 2 has the best game mechanics and physics of the series. It's probably the most technically impressive game I've ever played. It has a couple annoying aspects to the game play, but overall I probably say it is my 2nd favorite of the series.

3 and on mark a massive change. They dialed back on the originality and pushed towards accessibility. They look great and certain things improved, but overall the trend was going the wrong direction. It looks like #5 really took that next step. I hear they really push microtransactions for "currency" in the game. grooooan...
 
I thoroughly enjoyed FC1, great gameplay and the scenery was visually stunning, even the palm trees rocked violently when something went boom nearby. I've not played any of the other FC games, by the time FC2 had appeared, I was well engrossed in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R franchise.

I have the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R but actually never played it. I got it for like $0.99 on clearance at Gamestop. I should install it and try it out. I've read a lot of people compare FC2 to S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Since you already played FC1 I can mention what would have been a spoiler otherwise. FC1 is the only one in the series with monsters. The rest of the series you only fight humans.

There are only a couple game franchises that I have played every game in. Far Cry is one of them. The others would be Dead Space, Crysis and F.E.A.R. Generally speaking I have found the first in the series to almost always be the best. I guess for gameplay I would put Dead Space 2 first, but for atmosphere Dead Space 1 wins. Crysis and FC1 are much better than their sequels. It is such a shame games are regressing, especially when they start out as good as something like FC1 and Crysis.
 
Shadow of Chernobyl and Clear Sky are two games I find myself going back to, they are not without their bugs but both games are backed up by a large modding community (they used to be anyway) and through that, they've pretty much been fixed. I hope I get some time this weekend to check out FC2.
