Time to try again.

Now the democratic party will see the true damage to their party from Obama's scorched earth policy. Finally time for that "change" Obama promised.

What I expect is nothing different than any off year election. The non-Presidential party tends to win.

For the last two years all the Republicans have shown is they vote against anything 'Obama' and front no real leadership themselves. Even when Dems included many Republican ideas (healthcare used most everything the Republicans said in 2007-2008 for example) the Republicans were against it. Heck the Republicans even voted against tax cuts, which they are supposedly for.

The Republicans feel they can't lead if unless they have complete control. In short, the American ideal that in our democracy the representatives are supposed to negotiate and compromise is wasted on the current Republican leadership. For the next two years what I expect is the Republicans to try and shutdown the government, at least at the federal level, and in 2012 blame it on the Dems. And if they hurt the economy again so much the better they can blame Obama some more.

@faethor

Obama and the democrats in congress enacted draconian legislation despite the obvious will of the people. This administration and the democrats in Congress showed complete and total contempt to the public. They chose to act as if they were a Monarchy and knew what they were doing was horrendous, thus they made sure they don't have to eat their own dog food.

Anything you say about the Republicans won't matter, I suspect the shift in power will be historic. At least in Florida the Tea Party had a strong influence on the Republican primary, so hopefully that will pay dividends in not having "establishment" Republicans elected. We shall see.

Obama, Pelosi and all their communist loving allies made this all happen. I expect scorched earth when results come back.

Hmm, I was right; It does work both ways!

Except that the republican party is completely in charge of the Tea Party. At least from what I've seen.

You guys seriously need a third party.

Sure do! It is yet to be seen if the GOP is pulling the string of the Tea Party organizers, at the bottom it isn't afaik.

Independent Voters angry too, not just Tea Partiers

http://www.politicsdaily.com/2010/11/01 ... al-system/

Many independent voters, who voted Democratic in 2006 and 2008, say they plan to vote for Republicans this year. They have sought change in each of the last three elections but say they haven't seen the change they wanted.

According to the most recent NBC/Wall Street Journal poll, 60 percent of all voters say they believe the country is on the wrong track.

Should be a bloodbath today for democrats.

To baldy twats, fighting over a comb....

Not that the UK is much better, to be fair.

I think the root of this question is based on what we believe our Elected officals are supposed to do. One of the things our Founders did was not make a direct Democracy. One of the leading reasons for this was the fear of Tyranny of the Majority. Elected Officals shouldn't be taking the easy way out. Certainly acting in the minority favor has given us many positives such as removed slavery and woman's sufferage. If we acted in the majority will all the time who knows when those things would have been brought about.

Additionally 'the obvious will of the people' isn't so obvious. When this debate started favor was for the Healthcare bill. Once the passing and signing was done it was about 45 against and 42 for. There was a slight minority lead against healthcare. However the difference between the two positions at the time of passing was within the statistical margin of error. 'Obvious' isn't so obvious.

This administration and the democrats in Congress showed complete and total contempt to the public.
If you ask me showing contempt of the public and governmental process is highly illustrative of how Bush sold Iraq on the fears of WMD. The Bush Admin lied to the Congress and to the public. It's contempt of the government of how Reagan sold WMDs to terrorists against Congresses order. IMO there's real contempt.

OTOH - US Healthcare plan is estimated, by the CBO, to save the US Federal government $124Billion by 2019. Reducing deficit spending is what the TeaBaggers tell us they're for. Well except when they're against it, ie Healthcare. Similarily ~40% of the Obama Stimulus package was in Tax Reductions. Again TeaBagger Republicans rejected this. Because they're for reducing taxes, well except when they're against it.

they made sure they don't have to eat their own dog food.

I agree they ensured the private insurance industry would be in place. If they were the commies you claim them to be they will, and should, have passed unified single payer across the board for everybody. Instead they weren't commies else the US would have had a medical system like the VA, highest rated in the US BTW, where the government owned the hospitals, doctors, and the insurance. Instead hospitals, doctors, and the insurance industry are alive and well in a regulated market. I wonder how many TeaBagger Republicans would step forward and demand the VA system destroyed due to it's communism.

Target, a MN based company, donated $150K for the Republican Tom Emmer, who appears to have lost. Target has been thought of as the Progressive company as it's supported Gay rights issues, paid for benefits of LGBT partners, and contributed money to many local community causes. Emmer was a Tea Partier selected and promoted by Sarah Palin, again who lost. Emmer is also known for a strong anti-gay position.

Target was targeted as a consumer boycott. (Personally, I didn't 'boycott' as I'd buy a few things. I did however shift the purchasing of my household needs to CostCo.) Within a month after the Emmer $150K Target's stock lost $1.3Billion in market capitalization. Now I doubt 100% of the loss was due to the boycott. However, I do strongly believe that far more than $150K of the loss was due to the boycott. There's no way to no for certain the damage. Target, of course, claimed this too and tried to downplay the fear. The LGBT market is estimated around $750Billion per year. Losing this market could easily make up a significant portion of the losses for Target.

A similar fate was handed to Best Buy, another company thought to be progressive, in their right-wing contributions.

Will company's pay for backing Obama? Perhaps but we've already seen them pay for not having the integrity and consistency for standing up for values which they had, in the past, made a priority. It's little wonder businesses want to contribute to PAC's and be secretive about their donations. The answer here my friends is to change the funding laws. Unfortunately with both parties entrenched in the pockets of the corporates I don't see this coming anytime soon. The debate question is, is the USA an unoffical Corportocracy or a Plutocracy?

I think you title reflects a clarity of this election. The reason the Dems lost was backlash moreso than the citizens truly wanting Republicans. Here in Minnesota the result was predominately the incumbant was voted out, no matter their party. Anti-incumbant votes are more the case than anti-democratic party.

2012 election runs start today.
