This November, the Obama administration is expected to move forward with long overdue safeguards that would finally protect our families from mercury pollution. As the mother of four children, I can only say it's about time.

Gee, not a single mention of mercury in vaccines?

Perhaps because, except for the inactive flu shot, it was removed before we entered the 21st century. Though it was removed not for harmful effect but because people had been taught mercury is bad couldn't wrap their heads around ethel-mercury or methel-mercury. Likely the same people think gas is safe to drink cuz it's got alcohol in it.

Everything is safe until no-one is making money from it - then a "safer alternative" comes along.

Obama banned incandescent light bulbs so we could all switch to the mercury florescent ones, which the EPA will fine you for creating a toxic waste dump if you break one.

Residential homes are allowed to dispose of florescent bulbs in the trash. After banning incandescent bulbs there will be a huge spike of mercury leeching into the ground water.

Polluting Mercury is probably quite a good idea, it's not as if anyone lives there...

This was done as part of the Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007. While Obama may have been one of many senators that signed the legislation it would have been the Repubublican Bush to finalize.

Minnesota law forbids disposal of florescent bulbs in the he trash. I believe Flordia regulates this too.

Actually we shouldn't see a spike of mercury leeching into the ground water. The question of 'bulb' is myoptic. They are part of the overall electrical system. Today's largest pollutor of mercury is the coal produced electricity. If we could change all light bulbs to flourscents overnight we would reduce enough coal polluted mercury that we'd see a net reduction of mercury into the environment. Though the spread of mercury will be changed as we change the system. Sadly Minnesota and the surrounding States have such high levels of toxic materials, such as mercury, from coal that the EPA issued restrictions on lake fish consumption. And it's getting worse.

And there are alternatives, such as LEDs, which could be used and don't contain mercury . While expensive I bought my first two LED lights this year. Costs for LED's are supposed to drop quickly in the next two years. We prefer the LED light in the kitchen they seemed to really brighten things up.

Most (all?) of the flu vaccines have had mercury removed already. Too many people said no if it had mercury in it. Now, OTOH, do NOT BUY Rx drugs from India! Perfect example is a business associate who had 3 of his friends go to India for medical procedures. Two of the three came home with mercury poisoning. I would imagine Chinese Rx would be of the same quality.
