2011 has turned out to be very warm in Minnesota. 7 consectutive months of 5 or more degrees above average temperatures. The Weather Service predicted an unseasonably warm Nov. It definitely was. And dry too. It's the least amount of rain and snow out of any fall in the 140 years of weather recordings. (I have new gutters which are untested, go figure.) This warm weather has essentially cut 2 weeks off of 'winter' this year.

Winter (Jan-March) is predicted to be colder than average with less than average snow fall. We'll see what happens.

I can't imagine the story is much different for my Winnipeg neighbors.

Here it's been wet. It's always wet here but it's been particularly wet over the last couple of months.

Seems to be turning colder since yesterday too.

Today

Windy...cloudy. A 20 percent chance of drizzle or snow in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 30s. North winds 15 to 30 mph increasing to 25 to 30 mph in the afternoon. Gusts up to 40 mph.

Ya, low precipitation here too. It's funny you posted this today, I was thinking the same thing as I was driving to work and noticed the fields are still all green (well, brown as their dead from the cold, but not covered in snow). It did snow at least three times now, but most of it melted away. Today is actually one of the colder days so far (-15C) but tomorrow should be above freezing (+2C). The good news is that this extends the construction season so we should hopefully get our IKEA completely built by next year.

Everything from Ikea takes under a 1/2 hour to assemble. Why can't they do this to their own buildings?

heh, funny. Actually, that building will be built pretty fast. They started work late this year and expect to be done next year. I drive past it every day and it's coming along nicely. Although, they're also building a new stadium (so we can sit more comfortably while we watch the Blue Bombers choke), that too will be ready by next season and they started it this year. It's mostly pre-fabbed. Pretty amazing how quickly that stadium is going up (although, believe it or not, it's not a closed dome as you'd expect with our climate - pretty stupid if you ask me).

That's why the Bombers are blue!

As are their fans. I always got a kick out of watching fans going to a late season game dressed as if they're going on a antarctic expedition. The players are running around, keeping warm, where as the fans are sitting up high, in a very un-sheltered statdium, fully exposed to the winds.

Slightly warmer winters down here but our summers have become much milder, rain is falling thick and fast so no more drought...

All with their beer freezing over in their little plastic cups. He he.

Today's weather: Excessively violent, with a chance of dismemberment. Tune in later for our five day forecast.

Precipitation up BIG TIME around Detroit. But don't take my word for it -- take the national weather service's.

THE COMBINATION OF THE RECORD WET SPRING AND FALL SEASONS HAVE RESULTED IN A YEARLY TOTAL OF 44.91" TO DATE...WHICH MAKES 2011 THE 3RD WETTEST YEAR IN DETROIT`S HISTORY. LESS THAN AN INCH OF DECEMBER RAIN IS NEEDED FOR DETROIT TO ECLIPSE 1881 (45.44") FOR THE 2ND WETTEST YEAR WHILE 2.79" WILL BE NEEDED IN ORDER TO BREAK THE ALL-TIME RECORD OF 47.69" SET IN 1880.

And I think we've already gotten that as this report is a week old and it has been raining solid for the past 2 days, again..

Temperatures seem up a bit, but nothing nearing records, though they're now saying the November's highs averaged 3rd warmest on record, and lows averaged 6th warmest.

Send me some moisture! Less snow means deeper frosts. Which can impact us rural Minnesotans with well water and septic systems.

The unusually mild UK autumn has led to a bumper crop of brussels sprouts

Oh dear God, no...

^ Of course, the power balance in the struggle against the evil-but-oddly-festive green one may be about to change in favour of the all-year-round-best-green-thing-to-grace-your-plate. Research into fissile plant growth accelerators has yielded the final answer to xmas sprouts. Snow, wind, rain cause holiday travel worries

A snowstorm swept across Colorado overnight, dumping up to 10 inches of snow in the Denver metropolitan area and up to two feet of snow in the foothills west of the city, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm snarled rush-hour traffic in the Denver area, and roads from Wyoming to the New Mexico border remain snow-packed and icy, said Mindy Crane, spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Transportation.

"It's affected the whole urban corridor," Crane said.

More than 100 regional commuter flights from rural airports had been canceled at Denver International Airport, but all runways were open, said airport spokeswoman Laura Coale.

The early winter snowfall is a boon to Colorado's ski resorts for the upcoming busy holiday season. The fresh snow and warmer temperatures forecast for the weekend will make for optimum skiing conditions, said Mistalynn Lee, spokeswoman for the Winter Park ski resort west of Denver.

"Christmas came early," she said.
