Just wanted to pop my head up and say hi guys. Sorry for not being as present as I used to be around here, but as I'm sure all of you know, my life is changing a bit and "the web" as a general rule has taken a bit of a back seat to everything else.

Matter of fact, after selling the laptop (once I got the iPad, I never used it), the only thing I've even touched my 27" iMac for in about a month is to rip some of the 300+ movies I've bought from the now-defunct Movie Gallery rental chain stores. Movie Gallery stores are quickly becoming extinct as they are doing their closeout thing, but I've found at least three still open and peddling consolidated freight from the other stores.

Since I was running really early -- having no reason to stay in Huntsville yesterday -- I stopped into one on the way back ( technically the store was in Warrior Alabama) and while I was shopping like a starving fat man in a chocolate factory, they even changed their prices from 99 cents down to 50 cents per movie -- 20 for $10, blu rays were $1.99.

Not many new top 10 films left, but I did pick up a lot of great "old fill" for the iPad. Picked up the first 3 seasons of Heroes for $8.00 total.

2.5 hours I spent collecting from the shelves yesterday.

So, WHY you may ask? What on Earth could I possibly use my newfound 600+ movie collection for?

Why, I carry 40+ at a time on the iPad to watch during lunch and after work of course. I also have them on a networked drive at the house so that I can watch them all on my PS3 and HDTV from the living room. THAT's what "home theater" means to me.

Besides, once I have them all ripped, I might very well take them all down to the local flea market and sell them for $2.00 each.

So... Aside from laughing at the bunnies, What've you all been up to?

Just starting to realize that either someone got into my collection at the house in Huntsville before I moved, or there MUST simply be a couple of boxes of movies missing somewhere. I find myself surprised -- if not amazed -- by the massive gap in movies that I *know* beyond a shadow of doubt that I purchased and own but cannot find.

Standards, like "The Chronicles of Riddick" and "The Fifth Element" that I replaced on BluRay but kept the original DVDs for comparison...

Anyway, when I'm done ripping, I'll post a list...

If you have a Mac, I highly recommend;

1) Handbrake (handbrake.fr) -- PC as well
2) RipIt (ripit.com) -- for those stubborn DVDs
3) iFlicks (iflicksapp.com) -- goes out on the web, downloads the cover art and ALL details of the movie from themoviedb.com for iTunes.

It would -- of course -- be completely illegal to trade the .m4v's but maybe when I get finished, we might trade out hard copies of the originals.
