what zone are you? a new usda hardiness map

don't confuse people with the facts :D

"global warming thingy"

Tell that to my peach trees, and they will laugh in your face.

I could only protect the dwarf peach trees, so in the last 10 years, cold spells have killed off the blooms on the large trees 9 times. Yep, only 1 crop of peaches in the last 10 years, from the large trees. Actually thinking of replacing them with apples. I'm in zone 8b, old zone 8, next door to the "Peach State", and 60 miles north of the "Peach County" in Alabama, and supposed to be prime peach zone.

i planted 200 onions today! i will have salsa all winter. ;)
Since you're from Kansas I thought you should know over the last 9 months Minnesota has averaged 7 degrees warmer than average. March is over 9 degrees, looks to be our hottest ever. The net change is akin to MN moving south to Kansas.

your going to need tomatoes and serrano peppers to go with the onions to make authentic Mexican salsa

those are coming soon... was going to plant some ghost chilis too but a friend of mine gave me a jar of this stuff called da bomb salsa and it was not as hot as i thought it would be, but it tasted like dirt.

the burn has some definite hang time... unfortunately so does the flavor... imho

The "Bhut Jolokia" also known as "Ghost Pepper" are the hottest chili pepper, and lots of Texas restaurants now serve it in the "extra hot hotsause"

If you want to grow pepper varieties for flavor, I recommend poblano, serrano or habanero chili peppers which are the standard ingredients for many Mexican dishes, you'll only need 2 plants of each

If your making Pico de Gallo, you use serrano peppers

yum

when your growing your own serrano peppers you only use the ripe red ones in the Pico de Gallo, then they hide among the diced tomatoes better ;)

serrano are also used to season Carne de Guisado

That looks awful! You better send me some so I can check if it's really as good as you claim. :D

just pulled up a mile of fence of the milo fields... had two of the grandkids out doing it... they pulled the clips off the posts and were sooooooo proud of themselves... next generation of "family farmers"...
