If you can capture an evocative image that distils a complex and difficult historical upheaval into an iconic, emotive instant it will spread like wildfire - even if it has nothing to do with that historical upheaval.

When the photo fits ... go with it.
 
I wouldn't be surprised to receive an email purporting the "grave" version as real, from some of my more credulous acquaintances. Wouldn't be the first time I've had point out a hoax.
 
Nothing new Fluffy. Hamas has many times faked dead children photos as well in the past - not sure what makes this so special. Truth is always the first casualty of war. Everyone lies. I certainly wouldn't push these Saudi lies on to you. I'm just not sure why you keep pushing Assad's lies on us.

It wasn't so much a lie or a "faked picture". It was an art piece that just happened to fit someone else's agenda so they co-opted it and vast numbers of people were simply ready to accept it and not question it because it fit with their presuppositions.
