The Obama administration said over the weekend that it would not support legislation mandating changes to Internet infrastructure to fight online copyright and trademark infringement.

Who has read this legislation? It's one I haven't read yet. I get the impression this impacts foreign websites and their infringement on US copywrights. Either way the US or companies should hold court before taking actions. One should be convicted before penalties are imposed.

You Tube seems to have a problem establishing copywrite ownership. There's been many things they've shutdown because someone claimed copywrite but in reality they just didn't like the video posted. There seems to be a need here to clarify and ease this auditing process both for content providers and for the legal system. Though I doubt PIPA or SOPA do this.

In another thread we discussed how this new act isn't getting much prime time (did Jon Stewart actually cover it on the Daily show as promised?). But it seems the news did make it's way to the White House. Glad to see they're "skeptical" about it.

Obama administration joins the ranks of SOPA skeptics

"Proposed laws must not tamper with the technical architecture of the Internet through manipulation of the Domain Name System (DNS), a foundation of Internet security," the statement says. "Our analysis of the DNS filtering provisions in some proposed legislation suggests that they pose a real risk to cybersecurity and yet leave contraband goods and services accessible online."
It's the DNS manipulation that has most people worried. It's also how third world dictators control what people see and read. I imagine the US would rather find a different way to do the same thing.
