http://www.newscientist.com/article...e-capitalist-network-that-runs-the-world.html
"the study, by a trio of complex systems theorists at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, is the first to go beyond ideology to empirically identify such a network of power. It combines the mathematics long used to model natural systems with comprehensive corporate data to map ownership among the world's transnational corporations (TNCs).
"Reality is so complex, we must move away from dogma, whether it's conspiracy theories or free-market," says James Glattfelder. "Our analysis is reality-based."
"
"When the team further untangled the web of ownership, it found much of it tracked back to a "super-entity" of 147 even more tightly knit companies - all of their ownership was held by other members of the super-entity - that controlled 40 per cent of the total wealth in the network. "In effect, less than 1 per cent of the companies were able to control 40 per cent of the entire network"

I grabbed the top 5. Listed in the article is the top 50.
1. Barclays plc
2. Capital Group Companies Inc
3. FMR Corporation
4. AXA
5. State Street Corporation

Yup. You beat me to it :) - I was just giving that thing a read and it's about time someone did the search, though it's getting much easier now with everything available on-line. Information is not the key to power, but keeping it away from other people IS and that's what makes the net so dangerous.

But it's absolutely amazing how much wealth is under the control of how few entities and once you drill down into the super-entities, those super-entities end up being owned (or rather being controlled though "ownership" may be more diffuse) by a startlingly small number of human beings.

And it has all the attributes of a critical system and is being run by so few people they can't possibly understand it and things like that tend to blow up. It may be that the problem is "too few elites".

At least when there are only a thousand or so human beings running the planet, it makes it easier to get rid of the leadership. I'm sure they know that - that's why they get so surly.

Whilst the suggested list above seems intuitive, I was hoping Dammy might give his input on this question. He throws the label around a lot, but I'm never sure who exactly he is referring to.

Depends on which tier you are referring to. Total Global Elites of all tiers, might be in the low five digits. Top tier, couple of dozen. Who makes up most of the top tiers are going to be the billionaires and executive officers of the large multi-national corps. Mid level would be your bilderberg people. If you are looking for a poster child for the Global Elites, I would say more then likely it's Sauro^H^H^H^HSoros.
