eh? Odd question. I can't really answer it because the choices are not orthogonal.

Olympics in China? Why not? Might as well. And aren't the Chinese a bunch of lefties?

As to the athletes, I think they should go and perform as well as they can perform and let them be splendid athletes and not political pawns.

If the Olympics is to get involved politically then it's really the IOC's job to police that, not the athletes. But if the IOC is going to get political then the Olympics is finished anyway.

Personally I think they should just have it in Athens every four years and forget about this moving it around from country to country spectacle.

As to lefties, I think the majority of people should be lefties. The rich wouldn't be lefties, but considering the fact that only 0.01% of people are actually rich ... the majority of people, by far, (and I'm just talking about North America here) earn only between 5000 to a couple of million a year.

I am assuming everyone has seen the news reports of the Olympic torch run through San Fransisco being canceled due to protesters.

San Francisco (dpa) - The symbolic Olympic flame was spirited Wednesday through San Francisco in the face of demonstrations against the Beijing-bound torch relay.

Officials devised numerous ploys to keep the torch far from thousands of protestors who lined the official route, hiding it a warehouse, transporting it by bus, police boat and amphibious vehicle and redirecting runners far from the original path.

Finally, authorities cancelled the official farewell ceremony and secreted the torch to the city's airport, where it was flown quietly to Argentina, the next stop on a global tour plagued by demonstrations against China's crackdown in Tibet and other human- rights policies.

The San Francisco strategy was successful in avoiding the scenes of mayhem that accompanied the torch in London and Paris, where human rights activists protested China's policies in Tibet, Sudan, Myanmar and elsewhere.

But the result was just as far from the celebration that traditionally has marked the torch's passage. Instead of being paraded proudly through cheering crowds, it was transported under a heavy veil of secrecy for practically every minute of its only stop in North America.

As big and diverse the USA is, the only stop is in SAN FRANSISCO? Ooops

I didn't vote because your options are kinda lame. But I will say that as much as I support the Olympics, I don't support China's human rights record (or lack there of) and I sympathize with Tibet.

Now, as for the Olympics and politics. The two are linked, at least in the modern world, but probably in the ancient world as well. The mere fact that China is even hosting the Olympics is mostly a political issue on it's own. China wants to showcase it's modernization to the world and to show they are a modern super power. Countries like to show off all the time and for various reasons.

However, the problems with the torch rally began many years ago. They began when the IOC granted China the 2008 Olympics. That was the first mistake. If the Olympics is supposed to represent the very best we humans can produce, then why allow a country like China to host them? To me China represents everything that is ugly about us humans.

And if I were an athlete, I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with the fact that while the Chinese are placing a gold medal around my neck they're also imprisoning others for no more then speaking their opinions.

So to sum it up, I'm glad the torch relay is being protested and I'd love to see a boycott of the Olympics in China. The Olympics are political, China doesn't deserve to host them and the IOC needs a good slap in the face.
