Why drugs will never be legalized

I often wonder about the superficially illogical nature of world drug laws.
This explanation makes as much sense as any other.

It's only 150 years since the British fought the Chinese in the Opium Wars. The Chinese were fighting to keep opium out and the British were fighting to secure a market for opium. The British won.

The opium wars were wars fought by the British Empire on behalf of a private corporation, The British East India Company. The British Empire has since been largely ceded to the US. The drug trade is still a tool of profit and cultural domination.
