Will Free Speech Prevail?

No idea.

But it does remind me of when I was back in grade school and I wanted to impress my mom and put a gold star on one of my assignments. No idea how, but my mom figured it out (probably from all the red X's all over the paper). Boy did that suck! I've never lied since. Now, where's that Victoria Cross of mine, I'm sure it's around here somewhere...

Yes, it's another free speech case.

Is this really a free speech issue?

Interesting. I'm not sure how this qualifies as "free speech". Besides, it's much more fun (IMO) when these fakers are "outed", much as the Navy SEALS did with their "Wall of Shame".

I'm more amused by the irony of the story being carried on Fox News, a company that won a law suit on the grounds that Fox News didn't have to tell the truth in its "news" broadcasts because it was an entertainment company.

A lie; but only a teeny-weeny Fluffy one.

Well, here's what the judge had to say. pdf

If you repeat a lie often enough, eventually some fool will come along and believe it. Let's be careful out there.

 What? You posted something relevant!!!!

Hmm - so the actual judgement was not that it was okay to lie because it was an entertainment show but that there is, in fact, no law against it. Well, that's OK then.

(Or - specifically - you don't qualify for whistleblower protection if you rat out your employer to a governing body if you are only ratting them out for breaking a rule and not a law. Good system, that.)
