Was reading FSTDT and came across this gem:

The pastor whose prayer Sarah Palin says helped her to become governor of Alaska founded his ministry with a witchhunt against a Kenyan woman who he accused of causing car accidents through demonic spells.

My personal fave part of the article:

According to accounts of the witchhunt circulated on evangelical websites such as Prayer Links Ministries, after Pastor Muthee declared Mama Jane a witch, the townspeople became suspicious and began to turn on her, demanding that she be stoned. Public outrage eventually led the police to raid her home, where they fired gunshots, killing a pet python which they believed to be a demon.

After Mama Jane was questioned by police – and released – she decided it was time to leave town, the account says.

Pastor Muthee has frequently referred to this witchhunt in his sermons as an example of the power of “spiritual warfare”.

And the seriously sick thing about this, is that this fucker is just one of a great many "true believers" who go around getting the locals riled up and aim them at individuals, mainly women to blame all of their ails on, on the basis that they are "witches".

The full, disgusting story is here.

And people wonder why I would be more then a tad concerned if this psychotic bint got into power...

One thing I seem to keep coming accross is this sort of mindset, the problem with the internet is that extremes tend to project themselves much more effectively then those in between.

Just how rampant would you say this sort of mindset within the USA?

This isn't all that uncommon. We have a Ministry who is an end of days type that believes in the truthiness of the Bible. Sarah and he have come out with statement believing the earth is 6K years old and men lived with dinosaurs. His life is one lived based in belief and in an ignorance of rationality. The bible talks of witches so certainly he would see witches in the world because his thoughts fall first to his belief rather then examining the logic of the situation.

One has to remember while our Constitution and thus government were founded out of the period of Enlightenment the first people here were religious radicals thrown out of Europe because well they were the cults of their days. We're going to keep this ilk around forever unfortunately. Not only are those here that want to do away with witches but there are those around who believe they are witches and psychics. There aren't enough looney bins.

If I was the lady driven out of town I'd have stopped by the local grocery store and bought out all the Kool-Aid. Then dumped it in the drinking water. It of course wouldn't harm anyone but the psychological point would be oh so sweet.

It's hard to say how "rampant", but it sure is there and around

to wit: I have five words for ya -

"The God Hates Fags family"

they mostly make lots of noise...go to soldiers funerals (although the bikers have united and this seems to have dissipated) ...... frankly, I don't care if morons like this walk around and spew....they have that right

What I REALLY hate is when they get elected and want to change my Constitution! That really pisses me off!
And it's why I never votes for that asshat, bush and why I can never vote for palin - she actually thinks there no difference between religion and science. It's too dangerous electing dummies like that.

Perhaps the Constitution is out of date and needs updating? It's not the Koran, you can be changed without threat of death. Guns are one example.

bullshit

the Constitution has built-in provisions for any REASONABLE change - it just takes lots of talking and thinking AND TIME

and there have been some useful amendments that actually work with and enhance the original Constitution concepts.

what I hate is the people who think they can change things fast and willy nilly.

anyway, anyone who thinks the Constitution is "out of date" obviously doesn't understand it's brilliance or the brilliance of the people that wrote it
