An Army of Extremists
How some military rabbis are trying to radicalize Israeli soldiers.

Recent reports of atrocities committed by Israeli soldiers in the course of the intervention in Gaza have described the incitement of conscripts and reservists by military rabbis who characterized the battle as a holy war for the expulsion of non-Jews from Jewish land. The secular Israeli academic Dany Zamir, who first brought the testimony of shocked Israeli soldiers to light, has been quoted as if the influence of such extremist clerical teachings was something new. This is not the case.

I've been reading quite a few stories lately about how rabbis have been inciting the soldiers. hen again, that is the purpose of army chaplains or priests - to tell the soldiers that some god or gods want them to slaughter the non-believers and that they shouldn't question why and that they will be handsomely rewarded by the god or gods afterward if they die doing these things.

Then there's this story of a human shield which kind of puts the lie to the idea that the Palestinians are happy to kill their own.

The latest assault on Gaza seems to have been so disgusting and abhorrent that those who were given the job of executing it are leaking even though they've been told not to.
