The stock market started its slide when it looked like Obama was going to be elected, then continued to fall when Democrats got control of Congress.

Going Galt is one way that entrepreneurs can signal their disapproval of the Federal government’s handling of the economy. To look at how Galt the economy has become look at Federal receipts. That is not anecdotal, but a dipstick measurement of how much money the Feds are taking in, which is about as accurate a measurement of how much Galt-by-Choice or Galt-by-Fiat is occuring:

Hemorrhaging Federal Receipts,
Looks like Obama's tax raising proposals are reducing current tax revenue.
New risky investments don't make sense if your return after taxes will be the same as if you left the money in the bank.

Or, Obama looked like he was going to be elected as the focus moved from the war on terror to the deteriorating economic situation - if you can manage to cast your mind back that far.

The economy broke in August '07.

Fluffy why do you ignore the trend in metalman's link?
Can't you manage to cast your mind back that far? It's only 7 months.

Precisely. It's only 7 months ergo it cannot tell you anything about what happened before that.

the economy has been in the shithouse for years...it's just that the middle class tends not to notice right away

the rich ("Have mores") don't give a shit

only people like me (artists) can see the writing on the wall because this is a career that is very sensative to people's pocket books and emotions
