Haiti rocked by devastating 7.0 earthquake

Hmm.. By Fluffy rules wouldn't that mean all he really wants to do is get in their good graces to sucker them out of their newly found natural resources?

:) but no... the way it's done is get them in debt then squeeze them for every drop of blood. It's what has been done throughout the region. Chavez is forgiving the debt to help Haiti escape from debt slavery to the IMF (effectively to the US) and to the US directly. In that sense it is an anti American act.

Even worse, he could just step in and pay off their whole debt which would leave the US without claim against Haiti.

Why is Haiti poor?

It never ends for this poor country.

Rescuers racing in Haiti as storm threatens to follow quake

LES CAYES, Haiti (AP) — The death toll from a magnitude 7.2 earthquake in Haiti soared Sunday as rescuers raced to find survivors amid the rubble ahead of a potential deluge from an approaching tropical storm.

Saturday’s earthquake left at least 724 dead and 2,800 injured in the Caribbean island nation, with thousands more displaced from their destroyed or damaged homes. Survivors in some areas were forced to shelter in streets or soccer fields with their few salvaged belongings while overloaded hospitals scrambled to help those who were injured.

Yet the devastation could soon worsen with the coming of Tropical Storm Grace, which was predicted to reach Haiti on Monday night, bringing the potential for torrential rain, flooding and landslides. The U.S. National Hurricane Center forecast 4 to 8 inches (10 to 20 centimeters) of rain in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, with up to 15 inches in some southern parts of the island they share.

The earthquake struck the southwestern part of the hemisphere’s poorest nation, almost razing some towns and triggering landslides that hampered rescue efforts in a country already grappling with the coronavirus pandemic, a presidential assassination and a wave of gang violence.
