I think GM felt they needed Saab because Ford bought Volvo. Between the two.. the 21st century Volvo's faired better.

Koenigsegg may end up with a bit of both ex-Swedish makers. Recently, a Koenigsegg engineer made a usable new design Volvo P1800. Perhaps they could take on an update of the Saab Sonnett.
