Sandy on the way

I don't know who this "Sandy" is, but it looks like someone from a lovely cheesy tv series :D

but...well.....we are made of tough stuff, us new yorkers.
"Us New Yorkers"? You New Yorkers have the second most ethnicities living in your town. I can't believe there's anything "typically New Yorkish", except for being not local. ;)

Hold onto your hat Cecilia, and please be careful if you decide venture out to get some photos.

I can't speak for anywhere but 20 miles west of D.C, but to me, it's just been a good southern soaker of a rainstorm. Looks like NJ and NYC got most of it off of the back side of the storm.

I think Sandy is an opportune time for the Romney campaign. He's told us how he's going to cut FEMA to save money. He could use this event just prior to the election to describe how his gutting of disaster relief will better support the East Coast population. I want to hear about how gutting will return the nation to full service quicker after this event.

You can cut FEMA and still actually help people, you know. Just cut out things like the concentration camps which has nothing to do with helping people.

I'd agree there are likely some good cuts. I seriously question if Mitt thinks about it the same way you are here. "Federal Disaster aid is immoral" - June 2011, New Hampshire debates as stated by Mitt Romney.

Possibly, Mitt Romney is a scumbag. Vote for Gary Johnson.

This morning I tried to join a video conference but I couldn't connect to the bridge. I tried by telephone on the dial in number but when I entered the conference number the call went off into the aether. There are power outages and quite a bit of infrastructure seems down.
I'm checking the Internet Traffic report and it looks like a lot of east coast routers are seeing 100% packet loss. It might be a while before cecilia gets those pics to us.

aftermath looks pretty bad, and tho i know its foolish this soon after to hope the death toll doesn't rise, i'm gonna hope anyway.

Michael Brown says - Obama responded too quick to the disaster.

“One thing he’s gonna be asked is, why did he jump on [the hurricane] so quickly and go back to D.C. so quickly when in…Benghazi, he went to Las Vegas?” Brown says. “Why was this so quick?… At some point, somebody’s going to ask that question…. This is like the inverse of Benghazi.”

here's an album of images I took:

we lost power 5:47PM monday and I'm at my brother's right now. no idea when power will return.

There was LOTS of wind (squalls), which is why trees are down. the house withstood the wind but I it reminded me of the LA earthquake (that 6.9). Anyway, my biggest worry was too much rain and we just had very little. It was more like the wind was throwing water around.

Don't let anyone tell you this was "nothing". I am on high ground so I'm not going to see the worst of this. The people on the coasts are hit bad and I haven't had a chance to see what that means. New Jersey had floods early Monday or even Sunday.

No damage to the house and mom is ok.

if you get a chance to see the few pics I did take those are the HUGE trees that fell within walking distance of me. I'm sure the number of downed trees will run into the hundreds all over Long Island and New York. Ok, make that thousands :D

anyway, I'm ok
