A shame some '72 Dolphins refusing White House invite

The 1972 Dolphins were the only professional football team to ever have a perfect season. It was before the tradition of winning teams visiting the White House became routine and Nixon was embroiled in the Watergate controversy. Many sports fans and pretty much all Dolphins fans waned to see this day before all these guys died off, like beloved Mad Dog Jim Mandich did a couple years back.

I'm torn. As a lifelong Dolphins fan, I think the guys should swallow their pride and visit the White House as an honor. As an American who is deeply troubled by the direction of the country, I can understand the stance of not wanting to be a hypocrite by pretending to be good friends with Obama.

Would you want your team to go if you hated the guy in office? Say it was the Maple Leafs or some soccer team you love and GW Bush were in office. Do you put politics aside?
