The IS Department I've been running for the last year decided to go with Xiotech ISE for their SAN. There are always improvements any IS Dept can make. I didn't like this product from the first day I was explained it. IMO, too good to be true.
Well, we lost an entire data pack. Of course the vendor says the usual -- this never happens, we've never seen this before. I've run into this problem with other SANS (EMC is one). Drives often come from the same manufacturing batch. When 1 drives goes out it's not long until a sister drive fails. The EMC I had before lost 3 drives at once. Well, the Xiotech lost multiple drives at once and it's 'self-healing' aspect of course can't fix that.
Like always reality is not in the brochure.
