I thought I remembered a thread here once upon a time about this, but I'm not finding it. With few exceptions, mostly lower budget independent movies, I'm finding it harder and harder to stomach the recycled garbage being put out by Hollywood. On the other hand, South Korea seems to be on fire for the last ~2 decades. I'm going to suggest a number of films here. I strongly suggest to watch in the original language with subtitles and not English dubbed, if that exists. At least one of these movies, Old Boy, has a Hollywood remake that while admittedly I have not seen, I recommend the original. Also, if while watching the trailer you start getting interested, stop it at that point to avoid potential spoilers.
Warning, some scenes of violence in these trailers.
All of them I highly recommend. If extreme horror-violence bothers you, you'll probably want to avoid a few like I Saw The Devil and go for The Good, The Bad, The Weird. I've seen a few more, but these are all huge thumbs up. I'll be watching a few more in coming weeks/months, so will report back if any of them are up to this level.
I'll add some other non-Hollywood foreign movies that I've see which are amazing.
