yup I recall every once in a while someone asks Why women and girls don't seem to be as interested in more 'geek' stuff, comix / sci fi / and so on......for some unknown reason they seem to miss the fact that girls are not interested in dumb bimbos people - of any sex - who DO something and overcome adversity are heroes to me. I'm with this 7 year year old....... tell me stories about people with brains and spine and I'll be right there. show me morons and I'm walking away. bye bye
Superhero comics is something quite cultural bound I think. When I was seven years old, I read Asterix, Lucky Luke and Bob and Bobette. As everyone I know
I was more into Commando, Beano and the Dandy. Great times. But that said, I have been known to buy comics in more recent times. I bought volume one of Dark Minds. Fascinating stuff and brilliantly drawn with characters that are well fleshed out. Even as a bloke, I don't want to see women in comics reduced to little more than sex toys. I want them to be powerful in their own right, if they enjoy sex on top of that, fantastic, but that isn't or at least shouldn't be their only contribution to the comic.
Never heard of any of those. Gee. Only a quick jump over the small pond and everyone there had quite different childhood I know what you mean, well, sorta... I saw today a pic on ICanHasCheezburger that was quite appropriate to this thread:
