Because the users are clamouring for this ...

Sounds my home. Where the local Sheriff was called because a gun was left in the bathroom of one of the local stores. Turned out a local Deputy was shopping during work and forgot his gun in the loo.

would it work on a cheaper android like this clunker?

He says clunker whilst pointing to a phone with an order or two of magnitude more power than mine lol.

Yes, probably, check for certain on Google play. Chances are you'll have to rely on 3g rather than hoovering it through your home wireless... So just bare that in mind as the more often its set to poll the site, the more data it'll use, no issue with mine due to unlimited data plan, but I don't know what yours is.

mine is unlimted too (grr IIIIIIIIIII key!!!) i have four home computers so i wouldnt use the wireless at home... (2 ps3's, a laptop and a desktop) can you read and write documents on them too? the phones i mean... ive always been somewhat embarrassed to ask anyone because everyone i know is always watchng video (youtube or netflix). iitd be great to have speech to text documents...

Doesn't it have an RSS feed? I know it used to, but I don't use RSS any more.

Yes, but that's the wrong question, the question should have been "does it do it well?" Answer is no. The software just isn't up to it. A bluetooth keyboard and you're good to go however. Frankly even the Amiga had better word processors for it. Android is great a content consumption, but for creation it simply isn't up to the task, no matter how you try to rig it.

I haven't checked, but it seems to be a Samsung Captivate clone. Samsung made a bunch of spinoffs of that phone, all with the same hardware pretty much, just different design and name. Even my Nexus S shares a lot in common with that phone, except that the Nexus phones get the OS straight from Google. Anyway, this all means that that phone is on par with a great many other phones out there. And most Android developers still try to target Android 2.3 at the very least and probably will for a while. The Captivate does have custom roms built off ICS and Jelly Bean, so I'd imagine that one would as well. Not sure if that price is a good one though, depends on the length of the contract. For that I'd expect to get something like an HTC 1X or something for a 2 or 3 year. But then, the US market is probably quite different...

And yes, you can create documents but I find touch screens to be kinda annoying for long form. It can be done however, and Google Docs (now called Google Drive) can be edited natively via the Drive app. Evernote is another good app for that sort of thing. I'd recommend the Swype keyboard if you want to do lots of typing (although it's a pain to install, it's worth it).

the android os is really maturing quite well. I love Ice Cream Sandwich (4)
