Boris Johnson elected PM

Married bachelor. Square circle.
If you object to being ruled from Westminster (instead of Edinburgh) but not from Brussels (still instead of Edinburgh), then it's not about being sovereign but who to be vassal to.
True sovereignity has never really existed. Power has a cluttering effect ever since the days of ancient civilizations. For European countries, Brussels is pretty much as sovereign as it can get. Otherwise, Trump, Xi Jinping or Putin will have you in their pocket. And yes, Brussels is infested with lobbyists so a good cleaning every now and then is always necessary.

sadly, I don't think people outside the US can watch this, but it's hilarious and horrifying at the same time. And it's probably the best explanation of who Boris is:

This is such a good explanation! Thankfully I was able to watch it :)

Sigh.
If you object to being ruled from Brussels (instead of Westminster) but not from Washington (still instead of Westminster), then it's not about being sovereign but who to be vassal to.

FWIW I don't agree with either of the above statements. I think they're equally disingenuous.

Sigh.

Brexit is not about joining the US (was never sold that way and is not the public understanding and to use it that way would be a betrayal).

The "object to" analogy falls down so we move on to "sold that way"?
Square circle indeed.
A "trade deal with the US" is one of the ways Brexit was sold.
If you don't think a United Kingdom out of the EU will be even more beholden to the US than it already is, you win one of your own "not paying enough attention" prizes that you like to award.

Furthermore, if you're so convinced that Scotland is ruled from Brussels rather than Westminster, and Westminster in turn is ruled from Brussels rather than Washington, perhaps you can tell me what the rulers in Brussels ordered Scottish regiments to do the last time Washington wanted to invade Iraq? Answer that question and you'll have stumbled upon one* of the reasons some** in Scotland want to leave the UK. I'll give you a hint; a desire to be ruled from Brussels has the square root of nothing to do with that reason.

-EDIT-
* only one.
** only some.
Generalising the motivations of voters is where this discussion went wrong from the start.
