Harper getting a majority is a disaster. The Liberals getting their ass kicked is a wake up call, and I'm fine with that. But Harper's majority will change Canada for the worse. Harper is Cheney and Bush all wrapped into one. No good can come from this.
Also, there's a good chance we may be moving towards 2 party politics, US style. Since "coalition" has become a 4 letter word, it effectively breaks our parliament system as coalition is a key part of it. But I think the problems with the Canadian electoral system go deeper then that. A multi-party political landscape as we see in Canada needs something like a run off vote, otherwise we'll have endless split votes that will hand over majority governments to minority popular votes.
Did you watch Layton's speech? He talked as though he won the election. I think pretty soon they'll sober up and realize that the NDP, for all it's seats won, has far less say in what goes on in Canada then they ever did. I see no reason for them to be happy. It's a sad day for Canada.
