Quakes are in the Eastern California Shear Zone, which is creeping NW at 2in per year
The Garlock fault crosses perpendicular to the ECSZ at Ridgecrest and is moving NE

Usually when a Main quake occurs, the follow up aftershocks are smaller, in this case the 6.4 quake was followed by a 7.1 magnitude quake 34 hours later.
Quakes are occurring on both the parallel Eastern California Shear Zone faults and the perpendicular Garlock fault lines
