Global warming news for 2011

Using this as evidence then who is the scammer? The book publisher, perhaps, as they are the ones who made the error. Scientists are the ones who uncovered this and made the correction. Yet we're told that scientists are all part of the elite trying to pull this scam over our eyes?

The argument that there is no global warming is a complete red herring (and Red has admitted as much) so I wouldn't waste anymore time tilting at that particular windmill.
When you eventually have agreement that the globe is indeed warming, the goalposts will move to the argument over whether it's natural or partially down to humans.

Several years ago I also predicted that once it has been established that humans are having an effect, the goalposts will move once again. I still believe this to be the case and I'm sure it will be the usual suspects moving them.

I think there might be a little cognitive dissonance going on but it's not really important whether that's the case or not. Gleefully jumping on any study that suggests the world is not warming, whilst simultaneously claiming it doesn't matter that it is warming, betrays a touch of desperation that is either disingenuous or seriously flawed in logic.

I think you are confused. Once "Global Warming" was debunked by the thinking public and uncorrupted scientists, the goal posts were moved to "Climate Change" which means hotter, colder or the same all mean the same thing. We must tax the poor and middle class more.

I'm with you Robert. It's amazing how people will cling to things like a solid state physicist who is of retirement age that says he's quiting due to a problem outside his field of expertise s holding some sort of value as scientific truth. Indeed with GW the politics have confused the issue far more so than helped it.

The reality is clearly more impacting to the economies of the world. The USA should be leading in this emerging market. Instead the denier crowd is pissing all over industry and jobs and giving money to established oil. Germany and China are making the jobs, earning the money, and leading the world. When the USA wakes up it'll be too late. Our only choice will be borrow money to catch up. It's fairly a sad state.

I'm still waiting on my Global Cooling that I was promised in the 1970s. Oh wait, the same "Scientist" that gave grave warning about Global Cooling are now doing Global Warming. Funny that!

The world has been warming 1C-1.5C @ century since the LIA. Since we have not gotten back to the Medieval Warm Period's temps, I expect this warming pattern to continue for a few more centuries if this solar minimum doesn't throw us back a century or so.

Actually the Green jobs are killing regular jobs on a 1:3 ratio because of the need of tax money to prop up the green job. See Portugal unemployment rates. Green jobs are a farce, get over it already. What the US should be leading is oil exploration and extraction, we have 200 years worth of oil/gas/coal at current consumption rates, even more if abiotic oil is a reality.

Man made global warming and these silly green jobs are simply a tax scam meant to hobble the US economy even further then what the US government has achieved via taxation and regulation.

Funny that you failed to read my post where I posted for you all the sources relating to 'Global Cooling'. If you read them you'll find a severe lack of depth and breadth in the scientific literature compared to the work done today. This is important. And actually a time when what you are actually seeing is scientists starting to identify the trend they had seen historically and ask WHY is this not happening again?

Wrong! We're actually exceeding WMP temps. While we don't have exact records from the WMP we have the inductive measures of tree rings and the like. What they indicate is the WMP is cooler than it is today. Also, we have the indirect measure of other things. One example is in England grapes were grown for wine making. Today grapes not only exist in England but in Sweden. (Last I checked Sweden was farther north and therefore colder than England.) Another example is we found the WMP villages in Greenland. Why? Because the glaciers have melted and uncovered them. The glaciers are now north of their point from the WMP. Many more of these exist if one looks around just a bit.

In the USA much greater amount of tax money props up the oil and gas energy, not to mention a few wars and toppling of governments. If your arguement is we should have an energy industry free of subsidies then great. Let me know when the mature oil and coal industry are willing to walk away from their handouts.

China has over 100K new jobs in the last few years to Green. Certainly having those in the USA would be appreciated by some of our unemployed.

Solyndra is a political game being played by Republicans to help keep their anti-science agenda in play. It was during Bush when the first loans were made. The company was backed by the conservative Waltons. The indication is market forces, aka faster Green growth in China, is the competitive pressure they collapsed from. Eg we failed to support US industry. Nor was Solyndra a total loss -- the intellectual property and knowledge is retained by the US. Unless we fail to utilize that and continue to squander the foundations we're building.

Maybe it's time to stop trusting Fox on Green energies. I'd say the 2nd largest Fox Shareholder - Saudi Prince al-Waleed being a billionaire in no small part from oil should raise more then just an eyebrow for ya. Realize there's politics in play on both side. Don't let it cloud the science.

All change over the last few days:
The maximum daily temperature record for the UK as a whole for October has been broken with 29.5C recorded at Gravesend at 13:27 BST, according to the Met Office.

Forecasters say temperatures are still rising and may even top 86F (30C) or higher in some parts of the country.
The forecast comes as the country entered its fourth day of an unprecedented Indian summer which has seen it experience temperatures higher than the Bahamas and Hawaii.
The previous record value was reported at March in Cambridgeshire on 1st October 1985.
