Hank Williams Jr. calls Obama Hitler & "the enemy", pulled from Monday Night Football

Apparently even in football there is a level of idiocy that will not be put up with.

Yes, there is a right to freedom of expression, but there are responsibilities that go with it that people too often forget.

Unfortunately, Hitler's plan to pay for all those manufactured tanks and planes was to loot the treasuries of other nations.

I can see why so many people hate the Hitler analogies so much.

Bet if he had said that about Bush, he would be applauded.

Unlikely. In terms of the numbers of people killed as a result of his orders, he's small fry even compared to Hitler.

Actually, he had a new government controlled currency that allowed him to organize his internal economy. For the most part he built his military and industrial machine on an entirely German base. However, acquisition from abroad required an international exchange unit and those were still controlled by private foreign institutions. The treasuries of other countries wasn't the issue, since most of what is in the treasuries of most nations are simply agreements but Germany needed material.

The US solved it's similar needs in a similar way with the major difference being that the US won. Britain's great wealth in the 19th Century was built the same way - winning. (The same is true of all of the European powers - wealth comes from other people's countries).

Yes, Hitler analogies are pretty useless because his real sin was losing. Winners will have all their atrocities forgiven or forgotten.

I seriously wonder about you some times.
But you know it's true. If the Nazis had conquered Europe we would hear as much about the death camps as we hear about the huge numbers of German soldiers who died in American POW camps, i.e. nothing - and we would all have been raised knowing how wonderful Nazism is and how lucky we all are to be free.

Still hearing about how wonderful Communism and socialism are ....

That's an interesting theory, but history just doesn't support it. There is no shortage of examples of people being conquered and yet maintaining their roots. Greece was conquered by the Turks for 400 years and they took great pains to wipe out the Greek culture and religion in particular. Despite their brutality, they failed. You should know just as anyone else that under occupation counter and shadowy cultures, economies and governments flourish. The most likely scenario if Germany won would be a long and dirty insurgency that would eventually lead to it's eventual collapse - and most certainly well before 1000 years. Probably within 50 years.

And if huge numbers of German troops died in US pow camps and no one ever heard about it, how did you hear about it? And we do know about the aerial bombardment of Germany (Dresden in particular) and the nuclear bombs in Japan. Those are both nasty things you'd think they wouldn't want us to know about and yet, they're in all the text books. Go figure.

But anyway, my main concern with your post was that you tell us that Hitler's only real sin was that he lost. I'm pretty sure he committed far more sins than that, even by your own standards. In a thread not too long ago you mentioned that anyone who starts a war for non-defensive purposes should be treated as a criminal. You don't actually believe Poland initiated an attack against NAZI Germany, do you?

Will Madonna be the halftime entertainment during the 2012 Super Bowl? currently in negotiations ...

Madonna kicked off her 2008 Sticky & Sweet Tour by comparing Republican presidential nominee John McCain to Adolf Hitler in a video montage during the show.

During the song “Get Stupid,” Madonna flashed images of McCain alongside photos of Hitler and brutal Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe, as well as images of destruction and global warming, according to British paper The Times.

In the next segment of the performance, she used the image of Barack Obama alongside pictures of John Lennon, Mahatma Ghandi and Al Gore.

Hitler never took crap from the banks. He showed them who was the boss, cut the private banks right out of the system and turned Germany into an industrial and military powerhouse. Obama is no Hitler.
and Hitler was a vegetarian, and had one testicle

I've read it and many other documents relating to the formation of the Nazi party. It doesn't change the fact that it was a far right fascist organisation that was created as the result of the merging of the Völkisch movement and the Freikorps, both of which themselves were far right organisations dedicated to the destruction of both marxism and communism.

The funny thing is, a lot of what I routinely see being denounced by the far right in the US today is actually very much in line with Nazi thinking - democracy, the Enlightenment, industrialisation, liberalism, Marxism, parliamentary politics, and trade unionism were all Very Bad Things (TM).

So you have a choice, you can either quit with the lie that they were anything other than fascists or you accept that the Tea Party and, by extension the Republican Party are also socialist in nature.

Pick one.

Back on topic, here is the whole clip in question.

Hank looks and sounds sauced. He doesn't call Obama "hitler" directly after all.
