Having been to a few events where Bachmann talkedI can tell you the press's work isn't as difficult as you think it will be. I'd argue the press's reflection is more accurate than inaccurate.

For example I was at the speech where she stated that we'd have full employment if we could get rid of minimum wage. She then encouraged this course of action. Now the press, locally, highlighted this point. If she didn't spout this crazy idea the press couldn't highlight it.

Going after someone's physical attributes as a form of "political" argument is humiliatingly crass but I guess the propagandists have no shame because it's not about being accurate or honourable but about winning. Those guys are paid to play dirty. What IS desperately embarrassing, though, is watching the foaming brain dead masses repeat the ravings as if they were a cogent argument. It makes those people look bad and makes it almost impossible for normal people to take them seriously. There is a reason that die hard Republicans (who now find the label troubling because the party by that name is off the rails) still act like childish rabid loons and yokels.

Wealth isn't about the numbers on the note - it's about the spread between your numbers and everyone elses' numbers. A far better way to spur the economy would be to cap the maximum and put the 92% top marginal tax rate back in. A free market works ONLY when the market is a market of peers. When a few players have most of the money that is a cornered market and it does NOT work well to create wealth. Utility is better maximized in a more level playing field.

This is the sort of thing that is better suited to discussion and I tend to agree that the way these top level executives spend money on trips and security is inappropriate (both private and public - either spending taxpayer money or shareholder money - or money that should have been paid to the employees that actually do the work).

This sort of thing has gotten worse over time and part of that is the increasing security requirements for the job because America is making so many enemies and part of that is that the executive branch has been gaining unconstitutional amounts of power - a trend which was accelerated under Dick Cheney.

The President is not the law. He is just the guy that is supposed to make sure that the law is followed. Congress makes the law, the president is just supposed to be the guy that sees that the law is acted on - like the CEO works for the board and the shareholders, the president works for Congress and the people. The United States of America is, after all, nothing but a big corporation.
