Local weather

Washington Post denialism's argue the ancedote and ignore the science approach.

Globally, the snowcover is greater than normal.

Well done, you just told us what we already know; that there's been significant snowfall in areas that normally don't see snow. However, I'm not sure how that's a meaningful reply to my prior post as snowfall != sea ice extent - unless of course you consider the majority of the US to now be encased under sea ice.

Dontcha know that the following is concrete proof of Mann made global warming:

Cold winters
Warm winters
Wind
Snow in the winter
Drought
Normal weather
Unusual weather
etc.
etc.

Exactly!
When a human caused "Warmer" spouts their expertise as stupidly as most do, then they should be ridiculed for being the gullible buyers of crap that they are.

In fact most of them are actually deniers. First off they deny that there are any dissenters, it is settled science to them, no matter how many others disagree. They deny that there could be any other cause of climate change. They deny that the temp. collection station locations are faulty and they deny that moving them makes a difference.

But what they truly should be ashamed of, is their defense of the liars in the climate sciences that have been caught fudging the facts.

And now Professor Phil Jones explaines to Faethor that both he and Faethor are mistaken.

At least Jones is able to admit it. Are you Faethor?

Quote
"Professor Jones also conceded the possibility that the world was warmer in medieval times than now – suggesting global warming may not be a man-made phenomenon.

And he said that for the past 15 years there has been no ‘statistically significant’ warming."

Global warmingin my front yard this morning. Four inches by the end of the day. No big deal for folks up north, but this is central Alabama.

By the way Wilse; there is now snow on the ground in all 50 states of the US at the same time. That's the first time that has happened in my lifetime.

Local my ass!

And I didn't think it was possible to be that ignorant.....

Fade.. This does not mean what you believe it to mean. The first thing I'd bring out is that the Daily Mail appears to have cherry picked the quotes. Certainly reading them out of context does give give one an incorrect understanding of what has been said. Why not use the original SOURCE and draw some of your own conclusions.

First quote -- Jones did 'concede' the possibility that the world was warmer in the MWP. Possibility is not actuality. If you read more what Jones stated (see source link above) you will find he indicates it's difficult to make a conclusion. Why? Present data is indirectly linked to other data, such as tree rings. Also, the Southern hemisphere and middle latitudes have not been sufficently studied. As such the error factor is much larger. IMO, Jones is showing to be a good scientist. Summary: What he said was don't fall into the logical fallacy of the arguement from ignorance. He makes no definitive conclusion. And certainly the conclusion that this disproves the present man-made warming is not in his statements. It's the opinion of the Daily Mail author, not Phil Jones. (AKA bad journalism)

Second quote - again cherry picked part of the statement. (It's B in the Source BTW). What he said was the warming for the last 15 years was not at the 95% significant level. He also stated the period is too small -"Achieving statistical significance in scientific terms is much more likely for longer periods, and much less likely for shorter periods."

Did Phil Jones discard Global Warming -- not a all. Read the source and put the cherries back in the grocery store where they belong.

(EDIT) And of coursed asked how confident he is of humans being the cause he responded...
"I'm 100% confident that the climate has warmed. As to the second question, I would go along with IPCC Chapter 9 - there's evidence that most of the warming since the 1950s is due to human activity" (end EDIT)

..and people wonder why I object to Al Gore's fictional movie being shown in schools as science fact.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The only 'inconvenient truth' is that we just don't know. Is the Earth warming? Possibly. Did we have anything to do with it? Also possible. Of course, it is also possible that the Earth's temperatures are undergoing some other form of change. And it could be that all human meddling has had basically nil effect. WE JUST DON'T KNOW.

We need open-minded, honest, trustworthy research, backed by open, publicly available, non-modified data. You don't modify science to prove the "truth" in question. You use science to find out the actual truth. It's a subtle difference, but also a HUGE one. You don't "correct" data to fit your model. You improve the model to fit the data.

Also, I suspect the methodology we've been using in climate research leaves a lot to be desired. It's like trying to figure out if the ocean is rising by placing a few hundred random depth gauges, measuring the high and low point each day, throwing a bunch of them out, and then using a lot of statistics to mold the rest into the form you want. That's not going to give you a very good picture of what is happening...

Of course we know the truth. The climate was damaged by anti-GW scientists. They fired the HAARP damaging the atmosphere. They're hoping to cool it down so they can claim no warming. Unfortunately, they created a earthquake in Haiti by doing so.

:roflmao:

If you thought the weird weather was all behind us, think again!

First Nations declare state of emergency on melting ice roads

Manitoba RCMP were trying Friday to rescue more people stranded on thawing ice roads that have closed early and prompted about a dozen northern First Nations to declare a state of emergency.

A rescue plane went out to get a dozen members of the remote Island Hill First Nation. They became stuck on their way home from Winnipeg and were reported missing by family, but had apparently found shelter at a lodge on Wrong Lake, about 300 kilometres north of Winnipeg.

Const. Xavier Pilon with the RCMP's Island Lake detachment said the travellers had no way of communicating with the outside world since there is no cellular reception or satellite phones in the remote north.

The early spring sweeping Manitoba seems to have caught people off guard, Const. Pilon said.

“The weather conditions are exceptional. Usually the roads are open for a longer period of time and people know when to stop using them.”
That sucks. But not for me, I'm actually enjoying the lack of snow at this time of year. Bring it on!

Still mostly colder than average down here.

MN has experienced a warm March. Overly warm temps are bringing the ice out of the ground. This is causing near record flooding. It is the 5th to 7th highest water levels in our rivers. Depends on which river you measure and where. All this with a nearly 2" below average of percepitation.
